The North East Counties Fell Running Championship is an annual competition open to anybody born or resident within the North East Counties (Northumberland, Durham, Tyne and Wear, Cleveland and North Yorkshire north of Whitby). You will be presumed to be eligible if you have entered any of the races as a member of a North East club (including Esk Valley Fell Club, Loftus and Whitby AC, New Marske Harriers and North York Moors AC).
The format of the championship consists of 7 races of which your best 4 count towards the championship. 52 points are awarded to the first eligible man and woman, 49 to the 2nd, 48 to the 3rd and so on. If any more than 50 finishers in any one category, runners will always receive 1 point. Medals are awarded to the top 3 placed men and women with the highest total of points after the final race.
In addition to the open championship, the North East Hill Running Association (NEHRA) championship takes place with age categories of V40, V50, V60 and V70 for men and women contested for the same races as the open championship. Age categories can only be taken as those entered on the day. Competitors will remain in the same age category and it is the responsibility of competitors to notify the organisers ([email protected]) should they move up an age category during the year. For LV60 and above, and for MV70, a competitors’s best three races will count.

Intercounties Fell Championship
The 2019 Intercounties Fell Championship took place as part of the Flower Scar race at Todmorden in West Yorkshire on Saturday 11th May and was hosted by Todmorden Harriers.
The race was an 8.3 mile route with 2,165' of ascent and was described as "a race with steep climbs, rough moor and fast paths, typifying all that's best about South Pennine fell running".
NECAA sent full men's and women's teams with the the men represented by Nick Swinburn, Ben Abdelnoor, Lee Roe, Jonathan Heaney and William Robson (U23) and the women represented by Karen Robertson, Fiona Brannan, Elaine Bisson, Dawn Metcalfe and Alice Rigby (U23).
Our men finished 7th out of 20 teams with Nick, Lee and Ben counting and the women finished 8th out of 14 with Fiona, Elaine and Karen counting.

Congratulations to Jonathan Heaney of North Shields Poly and Nina Cameron of Northumberland Fell Runners for winning the Men's and Women's NECAA Fell Running Championship. FELL RUNNING
The North East was represented by men's and women's senior teams at the Inter-counties Hill and Fell Running Championship which this year was the Lads Leap race in the Peak District. The women's team finished 10th. The team was: Alice Rigby, Ella Towers, Katherine Davis, Kath Aspin. The men's team finished 11th and consisted of: Nick Swinburn, Chris Edis, Will Robson, John Butters, Sam Garratt Nick Swinburn finished as the overall winner of the men's race beating some of the top fell runners from around the UK. http://fellrunner.org.uk/results.php?year=2018 |

British Intercounties Championship Results 2017
Thanks goes to John Butters, Chris Edis, Lee Bennet, William Robson, Sam Garret, Emma Holt, Karen Robertson, Gemma Bradley, Katherine Davis and Aoife Smith who represented the North Eastern Counties.
